AMA Recap: Come See the Scottish Singer Whose Fierce Red Lip Matched the Red Carpet
Emeli Sandé wins the award for best color-coordinating skills at the American Music Awards.
Yes, we've still got the American Music Awards on the brain. Yet, while most of America is talking about Gigi Hadid's impersonation of Melania Trump, Lady Gaga's pantsuit, and Selena Gomez's heartfelt acceptance speech, it was one stunning performer who left a lasting impression on us. Scottish singer Emeli Sandé hit the red carpet to perform "Hurts," a single off of her newly released album Long Live the Angels, in a red lip equally as rich as her powerful voice. Turns out, Emeli's lip color was inspired by the very red carpet that she was performing on.
Makeup artist Denika Bedrossian, who has worked with celebs like Kelly Osbourne, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Miley Cyrus, and more, created Emeli's bold lip using Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red ($32). To add a hint of sheen to the full-coverage color, Bedrossian then layered a coat of Lip Lustre in Red Vixen ($22) on top.
Bedrossian completed Emeli's look with full, dark lashes, shimmery coppertone shadow, and a pop of blush along her cheekbones. And with Emeli's new platinum pixie (chop, courtesy of celeb stylist Charley McEwen), her old Hollywood glamour-esque vibe took center stage.
Though not all of us can say that we have many red carpet events to attend in the near future, every girl needs the perfect red lip for the holiday season—am I right?
